1974 Ford Escort MkI 1100L

Amazingly sound and original French import; only 50,000 kms recorded (31k miles); LHD; recent new clutch kit, exhaust and radiator; original handbooks

Supplied new by Garage des Alpes of Sallanches in the Haute-Savoie region of France in May 1974, this astonishingly original Ford Escort 1100L shows only 50,064 kms on the clock (31k miles) which is entirely believable judging by the condition of the car.
Never welded or painted, it is as good underneath as it is up top and the original interior is still almost showroom fresh. Starting promptly and running beautifully as we moved it around for these photos, it really is a proper ‘70s time capsule. The only fault we noted was a rather sloppy gearstick which will need some adjustment or some new bushes perhaps.
A file of French invoices show a fair amount of recent expenditure including a new radiator and carburettor overhaul in 2015, a new clutch kit in 2016, new rear exhaust muffler in January 2017 plus various routine service items. Other documentation includes a copy of the French Certificat d’Immatriculation, a detailed Auto-Expertise parts catalogue and the original Ford bookpack containing the owner’s handbook and the service book with one PDI stamp and one service stamp at 9,226 kms in July 1977. A spare set of keys are also present.
Imported to the UK earlier this year with a V5C which records it as a Historic Vehicle, this has to be one of the most original and unmolested MkI Escorts surviving and would be a fine addition to any Ford collection.
