1952 Lagonda 2.6 Saloon
Owned by the same
family since 1988 when it was purchased from the original owner; stored in a
garage since; not run for some time and in need of restoration; unusual
opportunity to own one of these rare four-door saloons
Produced between 1948 and 1953, the years of post-war austerity,
these expensive and lavishly equipped 2.6-litre Lagonda saloons were produced in
very limited numbers and don’t seem to be offered at auction very often. That
said, Brightwells have been fortunate enough to receive instructions to sell two
2-door examples in the last 12 months.

This
particular example is certainly a worthwhile project and is destined to be
saved. NGO 648 is still registered with the DVLA and has recently been
transfered to our vendors name since being exhumed from a garage in the
south east. The previous change of ownership was in 1988, when we believe
it drove into said garage, although the tax disc showing in the window indicates
1978, so it is quite possible this Lagonda has not been regularly driven since
then.

The interior
has been kept very original and although is in need of refurbishment, the
leather is mostly intact and the instruments are all present and correct. The
body has been bumped once or twice here and there giving it 'patina', although
having an alloy shell, rust has not so much been an issue. The timber within the
frame, although may need some attention also seems relatively
unscathed.

Sadly, the
same can't be said of the chassis, which will need work, the nearside
rail and outriggers in particular are in need of rebuilding. The photographs
show this but bidders are advised to ring the office to discuss the extent of
damage so they can satisfy themselves on what work needs to be done. Moving
forwards to the all important business end, the 2.6 litre engine looks entirely
complete but has obviously not been run for a considerable
time.

A rolling
restoration of a rare post-war car, and when concours two door examples can be
worth in excess of £50,000, this must be an interesting opportunity for someone.
Very reasonably priced too so we would recommend getting your bids in
early.
