1979 Land Rover Series III, 88in


Owned by our vendor since 2007; regularly used until 2013; limited use since but runs and drives

This petrol-powered Series III Land Rover was first registered in February 1979 and has had eight previously registered keepers.

There are numerous bills on file showing regular maintenance including substantial expense in 2002 removing, inspecting, and stripping down the engine. It was rebuilt and refitted with an unleaded head. The radiator, clutch and endless other mechanical parts were replaced or renewed, putting it back in fine fettle for just over £2,000. Shortly afterwards in 2004 a new petrol tank was also fitted.

It was purchased by our vendor in 2007 for general light use on the farm which can be seen on the MOT history, only covering about 200 miles per year at the most. In 2013/2014/2015, it was given some general check overs, which included replacing part of the exhaust system, starter motor, spark plugs, gasket, oil etc but since then it has been hardly used at all, being stored in a barn on the farm. At one point during this period, it was registered with a SORN and has not been through an MOT since.

It is clear this Land Rover has not been used a lot recently, but in preparation for the auction, we are told it has had a new alternator and starter motor fitted and it certainly drives. Having been used as a Landy should be, it carries some war wounds but could be re-employed somewhere or restored by a caring enthusiast who doesn’t have the deep pockets needed for a Series I.
