2000 Ford Focus Endurance Rally Car
No
Reserve
Competed in the 2006 Lombard Revival Endurance
Rally; professionally fitted bodyshell and welded in custom rollcage; last MSA
approved in 2016; left hand drive
120 teams
competed in the 2006 Lombard Rally from York to Blackpool. It spanned over four
days covering just over 1,200 miles but is often seen as one of the toughest
rallies for endurance in the UK. So much so that seven times American rally
champion, John Buffum had to retire one day before the end in this very
car.
Registered as a 2000 model, this vehicle
was properly purpose built to the Endurance spec 1,400cc rules in 2005. The
original MSA passport is on file. As one can see, it is set up in left hand
drive with a three door shell which was completely stripped of underseal. It was
seam welded with the full multipoint cage fitted, leading through the bulkhead
to the suspension turrets. It was painted the current Fiat Sprint blue with all
appropriate and slightly later Ford fittings.
The car was fitted with alloy sump and tank guards, Dash braided
fuel lines, expensive Stack digital dashboard equipment, trip computer and the
Bilstein suspension is believed to be set up by Prodrive. The car was known to
handle well and was supposedly very easy to drive according to paperwork on file
written by the then owner.
After competing in
the Lombard, it had a couple of small body injuries and once sold on to Sweep
Motorsport, it was fully prepped for competition again but not used in anger
until relatively recently in 2015/2016.
There
is no paperwork on file documenting its more recent competition history, but
official MSA stickers and rally labels on the inside of the doors give you a few
clues. A little digging in the archives should help provide some more recent
competition history if needed.
Probably not for
everyday use but could be fun! It is surely a spectacular opportunity to learn
the ways of the rally master for a young driver with
potential.
Documents: V5C, 3 old
MOT's.
