1967 Sunbeam Rapier MkV

A very sound and original body; two sets of wheels; reconditioned 1,725cc engine; very smart indeed

The first generation Rapier, with its distinctive ‘Audax’ bodywork, was created by the design firm of Raymond Loewy Associates in America.

Produced in five series, getting ever more powerful over time, the last of the line Series V used the bullet-proof 1,725cc engine which had proven itself in the Alpine and on the competition circuit.

The Rapier V finally went out of production in 1967, making this June 1967 registered example one of the last. A total of 68,800 examples of the classic Sunbeam Rapier were built.

This super example has never seen a welding torch underneath according to the vendor. The outer sills are the originals and it has had a high quality professional respray in metallic green.

We are told that the engine has been reconditioned, but there are no bills to say what has been done, suffice to say it starts straight away and runs very sweetly indeed. It has had a new clutch and slave cylinder, electronic ignition and a fresh coil and plugs. It also has a Weber carb and the brake system has been overhauled.

It sits on a recent set of Minilite-style alloys, although for the purist, the original wheels (refurbished), hubcaps etc fitted with good tyres are in the boot - the fitting of those will be the choice of the lucky new owner. It also has a stainless exhaust.

This late model Rapier comes with all the trimmings and is very smart inside and out. We like it very much....
