1989 Peugeot 205 GTi
Stripped out race car
with quick release bonnet & GRP boot; perspex windows; adj. AVO
shocks; Safety Devices roll cage; 1.6 fuel injected lump ported and polished
with Mahle pistons and Trans-X LSD
Dating from
1989 this Peugeot 205 GTi has been used extensively as a purpose built race-car
by our vendor for a number of years, although the car hasn’t seen much recent
action, sitting in storage for the last few years.
We are told original 1.6 GTi car was re-shelled at some point using
a 1.9GTi shell (as per the registration) after an old lady drove into the side
of it but the engine remains a ‘built’ 1.6 GTi lump with fuel injection, ported
plenum, larger fuel injectors, ported and polished head, Mahle steel pistons and
crank, baffled sump with Magnex four-branch manifold, RS Cosworth fuel pump,
oil-cooler and Trans-X limited slip differential.
In addition, the spec is believed to include adjustable AVO shocks,
full Safety Devices roll cage, Group A subframe mounts, Group N engine mounts,
quick steering rack and short-shift transmission, 27mm anti-roll bars, 24.5mm
torsion bars, Peugeot 309 rear beam along with 309GTi discs, drop links,
driveshafts and bottom arms.
Furthermore, we
see a full stripped interior, race dash and Racetech instrumentation, adjustable
rev limiter, Perspex side windows, rear window and quick release GRP boot lid
with quick release metal bonnet.
The car is
obviously a race-car and not a road car, although it has been MOT’d in the past
for ease of movement, it would need the headlights putting back in properly and
the emissions tuning for road use we are told and likely a few other bits – but
really it belongs on a track.
The vendor tells
us it was last rolling road tested and rated at 157.9Bhp in 2010 but he could
only find an older dyno test showing 144.2bhp – that aside, we imagine its
blistering quick and lots of fun.
The history
file for the car includes the owner’s pack and service book for what we assume
to be the original shell showing it to have originally been supplied by Oxford
Motors in November 1989 along with 4 stamps, couple of dyno print outs and
selection of bills for parts and works undertaken including removal of the
original dash and fabrication of the race dash costing £1268 in 2009 and the
re-shelling of the car and transfer of all race fittings by 205 Parts in March
2006 which cost c.£1,800.
Lots of time and
money have clearly been spent on this hot little hatch, and the vendor advises
us he has some spares the buyer might be interested in for a token sum by
negotiation post sale to include 8 x 1.6 GTI wheels, fibre glass bonnet,
original glass rear quarter lights, spare fast road engine, spare radiator and a
Brian James single wheel race car transporter.
On offer for a fraction of the build cost this looks like it has
the potential to be lots of fast fun.
