1961 Triumph TR3A
From a deceased estate;
current owner 40+ years; in storage since 1992 but just recommissioned including
new fuel tank and brake overhaul; current MOT; scope for cosmetic
TLC
This 1961 TR3A
was purchased by the vendor's late husband in the 1970s. An avid car collector,
he used it sporadically until the early-1990s when it got laid up. It has been
stored in a heated and carpeted garage ever since.
His widow had the car put into her name in 2018, and in the summer
of 2022 it was sent to New Barn Cars of Cheltenham for recommissioning to get it
through an MOT so she could retain the car's cherished number plate, 888
CGG. This cost £1,400 and included a reconditioned starter motor and fuel pump;
washer pump repaired; carburettors overhauled, brakes freed off and
cleaned; new aluminium fuel tank etc. The car then passed its MOT in
July 2022 with just a few advisories (play in front upper suspension arms;
coolant leak; minor corrosion to front vehicle
structure).
In January this year
another £300 was spent on replacing the front wheel cylinders along with the
brake master cylinder and the brake fluid. The car has been starting easily and
running nicely as we have moved it around on site, with good 60psi oil pressure
and effective brakes. On close inspection it is apparent that all four
wings are fibreglass rather than steel but you would be hard pressed to tell and
at least they won't go rusty!
After so many
years of inactivity it would doubtless benefit from a thorough service before
being put back on the road and could be smartened up over time as desired.
