RESERVE REDUCED; A rare survivor of Vauxhall's sports
saloon; four on the floor; just out of long-term storage and recommissioned for
the road; new brakes throughout; fresh fuel lines; Weber carb conversion; very
presentable and nicely original; find another?
The FB Victor had
lost its American styling influence when unveiled in 1961. By mid-October a more
sporting variant was on offer - the VX4/90. Fitted with an alloy high
compression head, twin carbs and a steel crank, the 1,508cc engine was good for
75bhp which was a significant improvement over the standard
offering.
This September 1962 registered example formed part of a small
collection which had been in storage for some 20 years or so. The vendor has
recently recommissioned it, a process which has included new tyres, rebuilt
front brake calipers and new pads, all new brake pipes and flexible hoses, new
rear cylinders, new clutch slave and master cylinders, a set of air horns and a
new battery.
The car has been running nicely while on site and presents
very well, with just a few blemishes to show its age. At some time it was fitted
with a Weber carburettor (as fitted to the Cortina GT) which was, we are told, a
common upgrade in the day.
There are a few old MOTs which date back to
the late 1990s which show very few miles covered since. Given the overall
presentation of the car, the indicated 58,620 miles could be correct, although
there isn't sufficient paperwork to prove this figure.
These early '60s
Vauxhall had an ability to rust away in a matter of a few years, so this solid
example is a rare survivor, with sporting pretensions to boot...
