Description
Carefully restored and in lovely order; standard spec and in regular
use; £3,300 spent on its restoration; 54k miles; driven to the
sale
Wow, this little 126 BIS has certainly had the full treatment,
its owner having comprehensively restored it since acquisition in
2016.
It was bought in November 2016 as a project, the first job being to
dismantle it to the bare shell, just keeping the loom and the dash in
place.
The car was unmolested as purchased and required no welding - the
glass remaining in good order too.
There were a few blemishes that were
sorted, particularly in the spare wheel well, sill and arches.
The
engine was seized and the head cracked, so it was all stripped and rectified,
and fitted with an overhauled carb, many parts yellow zinc plated, a copper
head gasket and the thermostat mod done to keep a cool head...
New heater
hoses were added, fuel tank painted and new brake cylinders, pipes and
hoses fitted.
It was gradually put back together, with everyting cleaned
and fixed along the way. By this time, the car was looking sparkling and
driving really nicely.
A hand written booklet in the file shows that by
July 2018 the mileage had risen to 48,675 miles and the car was proving reliable
and great fun to drive. From then on it was general maintenance, with new
wheel bearings, new leads and condenser before a more major engine overhaul took
place in February 2019 at 49,532 with a reground crank and a new timing chain
(Reynolds) etc.
Since then, a new petrol tank sourced from Germany has
been the only big job and it has continued to attract attention wherever it
goes. It has now covered a whisker under 54,000 miles from new and was driven
some 35 miles into the sale.
Its MOT expires in December 2024 with just
two minor advisories.
There are lots of receipts on file, the vendor
having greatly enjoyed the restoration process as part of the ownership
experience.
On offer due to a major fleet reduction, this sparkling
little 126 offers fun and economical classic motoring.
