Description
Rare Series 1 Montecarlo that's been freshly and comprehensively
stripped and restored with lots of new parts; requires some minor finishing
Dating from March 1978 this later Series 1 example is known as the
Lancia Beta Montecarlo and is finished in red, the svelte Pininfarina lines
still looking sharp today and is one of just 28 Coupe versions built in 1978 and
looks to be an original UK market example.
Under the rear deck, mounted
transversely we find the 2.0 liter twin-cam Lampredi four-cylinder petrol engine
driving the rear wheels via five-speed manual transmission, MacPherson
suspension as well as front and rear disc brakes.
Inside the cabin,
we find black carpeting, and here in this car, a pair of comfortable retro-fit
Mazda MX5 seats replace the originals and simple, yet effective switchgear along
with Alcantara door cards.
The car was purchased
requiring restoration by our vendor, a retired engineer in autumn last year. He
set about stripping the car down (including the engine) and
refurbishing/replacing, then rebuilding the car with a selection of related
photographs and bills on file. Our
vendor’s cars are usually painted by him to very high standard, but this was
outsourced due to some health problems and hasn’t met with our vendor’s
typically high standards, thus the car might benefit from either a re-paint, or
further attention.
That aside, there’s no doubt
the rest of the car has seen the right attention, looking underneath its clean
enough to eat your breakfast off with lots of new and refurbished parts in
evidence. Our vendor did advise the
engine coolant system will need bleeding and that it’s currently got ‘running
in’ oil in the engine which will need to be changed before any road miles are
covered.
The history file includes the
V5C showing 9 former keepers to our vendor, a workshop manual, numerous photos
of the car in various states of undress/rebuild including the engine block and a
selection of bills for some parts purchased.
A pretty and very
rare car that needs a little finishing that’s most of the way there on offer at
No Reserve.
