Freshly refinished bodywork; new paint and a
host of new parts; distinctive Italian engineering; has been fired up and
road-tested
1967 Harley-Davidson Aermacchi 250cc Ala Verde,
recently completed from an unfinished project. The bike came with a replacement
engine already fitted (V5 update required).
Aermacchi, originally an aircraft manufacturer,
began building motorcycles after the war and quickly gained a reputation for
lightweight, sharp-handling singles. Harley-Davidson acquired a 50% stake in the
company in 1960, using Aermacchi’s advanced small-capacity designs to enter the
European and US lightweight markets.
Known for its lively engine, excellent road
manners and success in period club racing. Today, these machines are appreciated
for their distinctive Italian engineering and their unique place in the
Harley-Davidson story.
Freshly refinished bodywork, new
paint and a host of new parts. The vendor then installed the cylinder and head
and sourced further new-old-stock components from the USA to
finish the build.
The seat has been re-covered, most of the wiring and
electrics renewed, and the machine has since been fired up and road-tested, reportedly running well and
pulling strongly for a 250. Brakes and electrics are said to function correctly.
Although the decals show a 5-speed, this example is fitted with
the correct 4-speed gearbox. Supplied with a copy
of a detailed parts manual.
