1958 Land Rover Series 1 88in
Recently
imported from Australia; UK registered; part restored late Series 1; engine runs
but in need of attention to transmission
Just as you like to find
them, this hot-climate Land Rover is in super-sound order underneath and has
already benefitted from lots of restoration work.
The chassis and
bulkhead are commendably rust-free and nicely prepared and it has had a new
distributor, coil and attention under the bonnet to get it into running
order.
It currently has no water in the radiator, so we have only run it
for a few seconds, but it shouldn't be too much work to get it ticking over
sweetly. The transmission appears to be stuck in four wheel drive and the usual
work on the brakes will be needed but this is a terrific basis to get a nice
late Series 1 up and running at modest cost.
It comes with a BMIHT
Heritage Certificate which lists it as a CKD export to Australia in 1958,
destined for dealer Gardiner Caffn . It was assembled by Pressed Metals via
Grenville Motors in Sydney.
Now UK registered, it comes with a current
V5C and could be on the road in time for the warmer
weather...
